  • Greetings Santos Fans!

On Sunday April 10, 2005 12:00 pm, the Santos F.C. squad clashed against the Classics at Burroughs Park in Tomball. Sour grapes were the meal of the day as the Santos lead was squashed by the Classics. Santos F.C. coaching staff and fans hopes for a win are swindled by a quick and merciless Classic counter attack to end the match at 2-2.

    Classics take the Lead 0-1!
The Classics scored the first goal in the 21st minute of the game. The Santos mid-field lost possesion of the ball on the right flank of the Santos attack and the Classics managed to beat the Santos right defender. A lofty cross into the Santos box and the Classics No. 5 beats Goal Keeper Melchor Guzman with a chip into the back of the net. Clearly the Classics dropped their mid-field players after the 1st goal and kept launching the counter attack to No. 5 and 11. The Santos squad struggled on the attack as the Classics shutout Santos from the equalizer for the next fifteen minutes.
A Groenow Header Equalizes the Classics 1-1!
A brilliant play puts Santos FC back on the score board. The Santos attack continued and mid-fielder Jose Reyes received a back pass from left flank mid- field player Captain. Daniel Villegas. Reyes dribbles the ball into an unsuspecting Classics defensive third. Reyes dribbles the ball past the first defender then the second defender. The goalies legs begin to quake as Reyes gets closer and closer by the second. Reyes launches a left foot shot and the goalie blocks the ball and rebounds it to incoming striker Andres Groenow. Andres see's the ball coming towards him and puts the quality forehead back spin touch to send the ball behind him, past the goal keepers hands, and into the land of no return.

Sergio Rozo, John Velasquez, and Edwin Ferrara Put Santos in the Lead 2-1
A ripping left foot shot from the right flank attack put Santos on the lead. The play started with a throw-in from Santos right mid-fielder Sergio Rozo to central defender John Velasquez. Under the Classics two man pressure John managed to put a ground pass to Edwin Ferrara. Edwin went one on one with the Classics third defender and dribbled past him. In a dash into the Classics 18 yard box, Edwin unleashes a rocket past the Goalie and into the Web. Santos clenched the lead in the 24 minute of the half.

Santos FC Falls Short of Victory ... Settles for a 2-2 Tie.
Santos FC Falls Short of Victory! Sour Grapes as Santos leaves the game and laments on what could have a been a Glorious Victory. The Santos ball possession remained at over 60% of the 2nd half. The Classics were quelled by the exhausting mid-day heat, the pressure from the Santos constant attack, and the running back and forth trying to regain possesion. Victory was in sight, but a defensive mistake by Santos enabled the Classics to tie the game.
